SHARING GARFIELD

What kind of Net entertainment can parents and children share?

Hugh Osborn, an educational consultant, parent of 3 and a guest commentator here, thinks PingRay Issue 2’s selection, "Garfield’s Scary Scavenger Hunt,” is a good example:

Garfield3I never really thought too much about America’s favorite Commercial Cat… unless I saw him stuck to the back window of the car stuck in front of me in traffic… but now I like him. This little adventure game is just right for a 20-30-minute shared experience with your child (probably ages 5-12) and a good way to get them interested in problem solving as an entertainment experience – not a bad lesson.

Nice scary music, some real puzzles to figure out, and fun graphics. The rewards are donuts (which may send the wrong message), but, as I remember, donuts are Garfield's driving force in life, helping to furnish his ample feline abdomen. Broccoli probably wouldn’t work as well as an incentive; lasagna would be too messy. There’s a whole Garfield universe, with many other activities and games. But beware--the ubiquitous Garfield items are everywhere for purchase, so some parental restraint may be required.
